How To Bake Steak

When the average person tries to cook a delicious steak you they will tend to grill or pan fry the steak, but... I bet you didn't know that you can actually bake steak? In fact, baked steak is a really simple and easy dish to prepare. So read on to find out how to bake a steak!

The very first thing you need to do is to choose the right cut of meat. A very small piece of steak will cook way too quickly so choose something weighing between 12 and 18 ounces and between 1 ¼ and 1 ½ inches thick.  Thicker than that and it will just take forever to cut through your baked steak when done!

Steak Marinating

Take your steak out of the refrigerator at least thirty minutes before you want to start baking it. For a simple marinade use some soy sauce, olive oil and steak seasoning for a basic flank steak marinade or choose from one of the many other steak marinade recipes you will find on the internet or if you have a kindle you can download brilliant and tasty steak marinade recipes here.

Marinate your steak for at least half an hour before you cook it so the flavor of the steak marinade can soak into the succulent meat. Obviously the longer the time you leave to marinade the better, personally I like to leave mine to marinade for well over 2 hours!! Just my preference is all.

Baking The Steak

Heat up your oven and the skillet.  The timings for baking are as follows. 300 degrees F.  25 to 30 minutes. The baking time can be up to you to experiment further with.  I have also had great tasty results at 260 degrees F for around 40 minutes.  As you can imagine, the baked steak will be juicier and more evenly cooked.

For that grilled taste, sear the marinated steak in a skillet before baking.  Brown on a moderate heat with some butter, 2 minutes either side should so the trick. Searing the steak this way not only looks very nice but also helps keep the flavour of the marinade in.

Once baked to your desired preference, leave to stand for at least 5 minutes to let the meat redistribute.
